How could those who lived before the Incarnation of the Son of God be saved?

No one before the coming of the Redeemer could be saved because the gates of Heaven were closed by sin.

They could be saved by believing in the Redeemer to come, by observing the natural law written in their heart, by practicing the Commandments of God and the teachings of the prophets, and by the grace granted to them through the merits of the future Redeemer.
